D.C. Smith Greenhouse
Considering it was snowing in the morning, a trip to a greenhouse was just what I needed. I failed at three of my five errands this day, but going to the greenhouse wasn't one of them.

Kennedy Manor Dining Room and Bar
This hidden gem is located beneath the historic Kennedy Manor Apartments at 1 Langdon in Madison. The outside is hardly marked — just a small, dark plaque on the unassuming wall. The Dining Room has been continuously operating since it opened in 1931. With its quiet ambiance and elegant Art Deco fixtures, it feels like you've entered a bygone time. The bartender, a tall gentleman with silvery hair, greeted us with a "Hi, kids. Here for a drink?" We wound up ordering a light meal (mixed greens plus tomato and leek soup for me). As we left, a woman's gentle cover of a Tom Waits song started playing, Everything was aces.
Dorn Creek Wildlife Area
Trapping is allowed here, which put me on edge as I couldn't find the trails. Everything was just muck and ice. And there were lots of junk tires strewn about, along with an ominous array of grey fur at the base of one tree. But then I followed two cranes out to a (snowmobile?) trail and felt happier. At least until I got to the end of the route and discovered I had a nest of burrs that had worked their way into my hair. This required 20 minutes of painstaking removal. Oh well.
